HW Please comment on this video. How does it change your opinion of the short story?

The narrator reads too fast, but other than that it is a pretty good interpretation. The part with the woman creeping in the yard is somewhat disturbing. I like the ending scene with shreds of wall paper handing down and the narrator creeping along.

The design on the wall paper is simpler than I imagined it to be.

Change my opinion of the story? Nay, it merely lowered my expectations for the student production that I will have to misfortune to be assigned to watch. Overall, I found it as deeply disturbing as the story and just as hard to get through. Poorly done in my opinion, but who am I to pan something that I, myself, cannot do? Oh well.

The video doesn't really change my opinion of the story, but it makes the narrator seem quite crazy. Her creeping is very weird. The video doesn't depict the feminist symbolism in the story, but it shows her madness pretty well. And the wallpaper isn't scary enough!

The video does not change my mind about the story. It doesn't show enough of it to actally see what is really going on as symbolism goes. It was okay to watch but it was not at all what the story we've read seemed like it would be.

You can tell that the production is a student film, but it is an excellent film nonetheless. The students were very creative in the music they chose for the backround, the setting they developed, and the characters they displayed. There was nothing about the film short of creative. The wrapping paper wallpaper was an excellent idea, although it would have been nice to see a bit of a more intricate design. My greatest criticism of the film is simply that the narrator was of course nervous, and therefore read the script a little on the fast side. Also, there was not enough emotion in her voice as she spoke the words. Although I can see a logical argument for why the insane narrator would keep a calm tone even throughout her insanity, I find it more likely that her voice would've risen with intensity during certain scenes. The overall acting was done well, especially by the narrator, after all, it can't be easy to depict a character like that. I also think that students edited the story appropriately for the film. They chose not to include the extra description and ramblings of the narrator which I really don't feel took away from the overall story. In fact, I think the way they chose to only include the parts about the wallpaper really worked for them because instead of slowly working into her insanity, they just began at the climax of it. Overall, it was well produced, and although it is in fact a student film, it should not be defined as one for its creativity far surpasses the typical student film.

My opinion was not changed by this video. I was however very disappointed by this interpretation. The wall paper was very simplistic, the feminist values of the story were not highlighted, and that was not the creeping I imagined when I was reading the story.

Is it bad that I liked the wallpaper design in this movie?
I'm sorry but I was expecting these evil, chubby cherub-looking heads on the wallpaper, not pretty leaves and ivy that look like they should be hanging in a room...or my bathroom.
Well, this does not change my opinion of the book at all, especially because none of the elements of feminism and sybolism were highlighted, and the tension between John and Jennie and the narrator was slim to none. The acting managed to capture the essential lunacy of the narrator, but the actual speaker in the video was timid or shaky, or just couldn't read very well because it lacked emotion throughout.
I loved the creeping- pretty much what I imagined it to be, but now tht I actually see it acted out, it looks unrealistic, but crazy all the same.
AND NOW I THINK OUR CLASS SHOULD MAKE OUR OWN INTERPRETATION OF A SHORT STORY.... too bad the only short stories we read last year were transcendentalist stories and a Jonathan Swift satire about eating babies, which might be a little grotesque.
But we could give it a shot...with edgar allan poe???

As a few other people have said, I was rather disappointed with this interpretation. Granted, this is a much better video than I could ever have put together, but I still think that this could have portrayed the narrator's descent into madness, as well as the symbolism that's so important to the story, much more clearly. I also would have liked to hear more of the story narrated, because the original author put those words there with a purpose.

This flim does convey the general idea of the story, but the details that really give the story its meaning are missing.

The video didn't really change my view of the story because it portrayed clearly what we discussed in class. I thought that the video was well done and a good interpretation of what the story is about. I thought the angles shown in the video really captured the chaotic and mad nature of the woman trapped in the room. I did think the creeping woman outside was strange though, very creepy. Plus that wallpaper was gross looking.

Disturbing. I agree that it could have been better read, but it took a lot for this person to get their ideas onto film and post them. I hope that some of you are willing to do the same. Take some risks, and know that some will criticize, but at least the person who did the video is, "the man in the arena." (see T Roosevelt)Which of you are willing to step up and be judged?
I am also very happy to note that I have no yellow or any types of wallpaper in my current home. My last one has some wallpaper that drove me nearly as mad as the yellow wallpaper did. So, is this a story about madness and the human mind or a home improvement project gone awry? Maybe they are one and the same...

I agree with most on the fact that the wallpaper wasn't like I pictured it to be. It didn't even look yellow to me. But in general, I think it was decent for a bunch of high school kids. It doesn't really change the way I look at the story, but it was kind of nice to be able to have a visual other than the pictures you create in your head as a reader. The woman who creeped in the yard was ridiculously disturbing, and it reminded me of the The Ring a little bit.

Honestly, though, I think it would be kind of fun to do this. The girl who narrated read too fast and didn't put too much emotion into it, but I think if you put a lot of effort into it this could be kind of an interesting assignment.

First, some criticism. Coincidence that she is wearing a white button-up (not all that different from a psych ward patient)? I think not. I recognize that it might be difficult to find a house with ugly yellow wallpaper that someone just "knows about", but I'm not sure if the wallpaper (wrapping paper??) in the video is anywhere near an equal substitute. It kinda sounds like the narrator tried to memorize the script instead of just read it?

Didn't really do much to my understanding of the story besides add some mediocre imagery.

They didn't really mention how the narrator was sick. But overall the video was pretty much the same as the story. But I did also expect a little bit more from the video with the creepy women in the walls, and more emotion in the narrators voice.

My opinion is basically the same. The lady is nuts, but it had the music from the movie saw which made it creepy. Also the movie makes it seem like the woman is nuts in an asylum more than she is fighting for woman's rights.

This film did not change my view of The yellow Wallpaper. It was a well done production but the overall conveyance of the story was lacking in the kind of quality I was expecting.

The video didn't really change my opinion of the story, but I did think it was an interesting interpretation. I did not like the wallpaper; I pictured it more wild and intertwined. I thought the narrator did not really put anything into her reading. It seemed like she was just holding a script and reading off the lines. I also liked the music in the background. I did like the creeping, especially the woman in the yard. That was exactly what I expected her "creeping" to look like.
I thought the video was good, but the wallpaper was not creepy enough for me.

This video did not really change my opinion about the story. It left out some of the important details and symbolism that made the story worth reading. Overall, i did not like it, but I could not expect much more from kids in high school.

The vidoe didn't really change my opinion of the story, in fact I felt the video detracted from the story. Multiple subtleies that made the story interesting were entirely ignored. While the basic, obvious plot details were left in, all of the points the story made were entirely ignored. The fact that the narator in the video couldn't read and kept stumbling over words annoyed me still more. I also didn't find the wallpaper particularly sinister, complex, or even yellow. I loved the 'creeping' though, it made me laugh, she really managed to look insane and creepy. Overall, for a student performance, I think it was pretty well put together, but it was far from professional and I don't think that it captured the feel of the story.

Now I am not trying to insult anyone but when i watched this, I fell asleep which is hard to do considering it was only like six minutes. In terms of changing my opinion I would have to say no on changing my opinion though. It was basically the same stuff over and over. I did not like the story and i certainly did not like the video. Sorry Ms. Laffayette (hope I spelled that right)

This video did not change my interpretation of the story. It did how ever change my thoughts on the way the woman creeped, it was not as I pictured it. Over all though I thought it helped me picture the story a little better then before.

The way they portrayed the story was not the way that I pictured it while I was reading. It did not change my views, but I don't think that it emphasized the right things. The feminist symbolism doesn't seem to be shown. I also did not think the wallpaper was as strange as the details explained it to be. However, I feel we should still give them credit and I think that they did a decent job. :)

When one reads to themselves a story in their head, I'm quite certain that in almost every case it is portrayed far better than this.
The narrator sounded like she was the camera man's little sister who he paid a dollar to read the story aloud as he filmed his friend being emo.
Although the creeping WAS indeed scary, what was more scary was that people actually took the time to do this.
My opinion of the story has not changed at all, although the end kind of made me giggle because I thought to myself how odd it would be to randomly walk in a room and see your mom crawling along the edges of a wall, and then having to crawl over your unconscious dad like he's a speed bump.
Oh the joys of insanity.
Oh the misery of student films.

I like what the people did with this video. I think that for me at least it cleared up a lot of things that i had questions about in the book. I learned more about the girl and about the husband.
