I think he can be mean sometimes but other than that he is an okay kid. It was bad of him to just let hassan get raped. He also picked on him but he still was friends with him.
Amir seems intersting, as of right now I don't like him, he seems snake like with setting up Hassen and putting the cash and watch and waited til Hassen and Ali left for the grocery shopping. He lies he doesn't like hassen getting the attention. Jessica
"I had one last chance to make my decision...In the end, I ran." I believe that Amir tries to be an honest and reliable person, but his personality prohibits any brave action. When Amir narrates in the story, you can tell that he wants to do the right thing, but he just can't do it. Amir is a sucky person.
I don't like Amir. I think what he did, actually what he didn't do to help Hassan was absoulutly unforgivable. I think that Amir jealousy overtook him and made him the awful person he is. Amir tries to belittle Hassan and all Hassan wants is to be his friend. " I dont know how many times i hit him..."p9.93 Is when i finally realized that it Amir is selfish and is a horrible person.
As a child I think Amir was a rotten, selfish little brat who not only lied to everybody he knew, but also lied to himself about how he really felt about Hassan. The only person to call him out about it was Assef when he said, "Why dont you tell him why you only play with him when nobody else is around?" The only time he felt bad about how he treated Hassan was when he was raped, and even then it wasnt "oh poor Hassan" or "I cant believe I let that happen to him" it was "I want him to get mad at me so I dont have to live with the guilt". Like when he threw the pomegranates at Hassan, begging him to throw one back and get mad at him. He's cruel, and unfeeling toward others. Even with his father, instead of trying to talk to him and tell him that he's who he is, instead he complains and whines about how his daddy never loved him. Yea its hard having a parent who doesnt understand you, but grow a spine and show him you're a man and stand up for what you believe in.
So far about what I have read, I feel bad for Amir. He works so hard to be with his father. His relationship with his father is terrible, Baba shouldn't be trying to making him someone that he can't be. But should be proud of the effort Amir has put into trying to impress Baba. Also, I don't think Baba should give Amir the idea that it was his fault his mother died, he was a baby, it's not like it was his intention to "kill" his mom, I think he wouldv'e wanted to grow up with his mother than have a father who shows no care at all for him. "As always, it was Rahim Khan who rescued me. He held out his hand and favored me with a smile that had nothing feigned about it." p. 31 Rahim Khan shows more care than his own father who after left the room looking "relieved." And I think that's why he doesn't do much for Hassan because Baba gives him more attention than himself and he's jealous!
Amir is a horrible kid and needs to learn to stand up for what he believes. He just lets people talk about Hassan and Ali even though he cares about them he needs to learn that just b/c other people dont agree with you doesnt mean you should just sit there and do nothing when the people you care about are getting hurt.
I'm not a senior, but I'm reading the book anyways! I think Amir is a very immature individual. Although he knows how to make decisions, he does not make them logically, or think of the possibly outcomes. I think it's going to take something very drastic to change the person Amir is.
My opinion of Amir is that he is kind of untrustworthy, because of what he did to Hassan by putting the money under his bed so that he would get caught stealing. It makes me mad everytime he does something that i think is completely unnecessary and that he probably just shouldn't do, because there is no reason for it. When he has the chance to make it up he should because it is a really mean thing that he did.
Amir is very honest about his feelings but he doesnt do anything that takes courage. He tries to take the easy way out instead of doing the right thing. For example, when he threw the pomegranates at Hassan and wanted Hassan to throw them back. As of right now I don't like Amir because he never does the right thing and he only worrys about what people think of him. He doesnt really care how Hassan feels hes only worried about the guilt he feels for not helping him.
I think Amir was selfish in the begining of the book. From what I had read so far he seems to be getting better about caring about other people instead of worrying about himself all the time.
I don't think Amir left Hassen to be raped because of jealousy or made it look like Hassen took the watch because of jealousy. I think Amir just couldn't see Hassen or face him because of how ashamed and guilty he felt about leaving Hassen to be raped. Seeing Hassen reminds him of his cowardness, which Amir hates. I don't think Amir was ever "mean", he just was never brave enough to face his problems, and to some extent, selfish.
This is my first year as Assistant Principal at Norton High School. After six years as an English teacher here, I know I will miss the classroom, but I am ready for a new challenge as an administrator.
